Our Bar ATL: Hospitality Goes Both Ways

Six months into the pandemic crisis, tipping has become a hot topic of debate - so we're here to tell you exactly how we see it.

Whether you're dining-in, picking up curbside, or taking it to-go, you should leave at least a 20% tip. 'Nuff said.

We wanted to share our thoughts on this important issue since it affects so many of our fellow service industry workers - and to also brag about how awesome our regulars are.

We love and appreciate them so much because of their selfless and powerful support and love for us. We are lucky that the majority of our regulars are service industry professionals as well. There's a shared sense of belonging here at Our Bar ATL - and it's felt not only by our staff but also by our regulars. We value their very existence and love them for who they are, and that special feeling is something that goes both ways.

"People will forget what you said. They will forget what you did. But they will never forget how you made them feel." - Maya Angelou

So when we hear about how tipping is even a topic of debate, it simultaneously makes us sad for the current state of things and absolutely blessed because of how strong our tribe is during these times. The term "customer first" has been around the industry for a long time, but it's never really stuck with us. Our Bar ATL is always family first. That means our staff and regulars first - and everyone else second.

So to our amazing patrons, thank you for remaining patient and tipping well even when service was slow or didn't quite live up to pre-pandemic expectations. Thank you for putting up with our annoying temperature checks, dry hands from the hand sanitizers, and masks that are never comfortable. Most of all, thank you for making us feel like we're all on the same side whenever you stop by.

"I had begun to understand that business and life have a lot in common with a hug. The best way to get a good one was first to give one." - Danny Meyer, Setting The Table.

Given our quirky sense of humor, our "No Thank You" long sleeve tee is designed to call out those who tip inadequately and fail to understand just what service industry workers go through every day, especially right now. None of us can guarantee you perfection, whether it was before the pandemic or during it. We can only offer our sincerity in the experience whenever we meet each other.

In the end, all we can say is: tip well and don't be a shitty person.

To our staff and regulars: thanks, this tee WAS MADE FOR EVERYONE WHO AIN'T YOU.
